What you can expect when joining one of our classes
We help pet dog owners establish a positive relationship with their dog
resulting in the following:
This is achieved through positive, assertive and consistent behaviour on the part of the dog handler
Our Annual Membership fee and our Training Sessions are incredible value for money
We operate on a 'not-for-profit' basis
Our Trainers, Officers and Committee Members are volunteers - and we thank them for their dedication
NOTE: These are the revised times for 2024 terms:-
Class 1 : Monday evenings starting just after 7:00pm - 7:45pm
Here are some of the basics taught in our first class - a great place to start:
Responsibilty and care of your dog/puppy - includes cleanliness and identification
Attentive response to his/her name
Playing - yes we have fun in our classes!
Socialising and basic positioning
Puppy recall
Also, to get you started and progress: Ready?, Sit, Heel, Leave, Wait
Class 2 : Monday evenings starting 7:45pm - 8:35pm
Some of the early commands taught in our second class - leading to improving your dog handling skills:
Heel Dog to walk on a lead by the handler’s side without pulling
Sit Dog will sit smartly in close proximity to the handler whenever command is given
Wait Handler is able to leave their dog and walk away. Dog remains alert but relaxed
Down Handler has dog lay down on the floor. A good way to settle your dog and keep dog calm
Stay Dog is left on the spot and relaxes knowing the handler will return to release
Come (recall) Dog returns quickly to handler and sits in front of handler
In order to progress to Class 2, dogs must be able to demonstrate achievement of the “Good” standard in our Assessment Record for handlers and dogs.
Class 3 : Monday evenings starting 8:40pm - 9:30pm)
Some of the basic commands taught in our second class - note subtle improvements:
Heel Dog to walk by the handler’s side both on and off a lead and with absolutely no pulling if on lead
Sit Dog will sit smartly and close to handler whenever command is given even with distractions
Wait Handler is able to leave their dog and walk away for a prolonged period despite there being distractions
Down Dog is left laying down and settled while handler does other things - ensures a steady trust in the dog
Stay Dog is left on the spot and relaxes knowing the handler, although out of sight, will return to release
Come (recall) Dog returns quickly to handler, ignoring distractions, and then sits in front of handler
Note that the commands above are just some of the commands that you will be taught during your time in our lessons
